Real Wireless will play a key supporting role in the new UK5G national innovation network.

28. 3. 2018 – Endorsed by the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Committee and launched at the BT Tower on 26 March 2018, UK5G will support the development of the UK as a global leader in 5G.

Real Wireless CTO Simon Fletcher has been named as a member of the UK5G Advisory Board, which will provide advice, guidance and support for the aims of the network, as well as providing impartial, industry-focused advice to DCMS on its future plans for 5G. He recently signed an MoU with South Korea’s 5G Forum on behalf of UK5G when visiting the 5G trials sites in Korea as part of a UK government delegation.

This follows the recent announcement that Real Wireless is a core partner delivering AutoAir – a 5G testbed for connected and autonomous vehicles as part UK’s £25M 5G digital strategy – and will lead activities relating to ascertaining the potential economic and social impacts of the project.

Real Wireless CTO Simon Fletcher attended the launch event, he said: “I am delighted to represent Real Wireless as a member of the UK5G Advisory Board. We bring a lot of strategic experience to the table, having played a key role in the building of the ecosystems that will support 5G. From being founding members of the Small Cell Forum; to the techno-economic assessment of innovations and the mapping of eco-systems that support them, on behalf of governments and their agencies in the UK and across Europe. My role on the board is to support the lead partners in setting the direction for UK5G and its priorities. I look forward to working within the Advisory Board on developing the UK as a world leader in 5G.”

UK5G is a ‘network of networks’ to facilitate and encourage the engagement and coordination of organisations working on 5G activities across the UK. It will enhance links between ongoing research and development and other activities being undertaken by organisations across telecoms and other sectors, as well as the testbeds and trials that will be funded through the UK Government’s 5G Testbeds and Trials Programme. It will facilitate the joining up of businesses, large and small, academic institutions and the public sector throughout the UK.

UK5G will be a focal point for international engagement into the UK’s 5G eco-system – encouraging international participation and investment. More information about UK5G.
